Original music by Scott Paulley.

Recorded on location in East Vancouver.

Scott Paulley - vocals and guitar, and Simpsonelli - guitar and vocals.

For this recording we used a Rode NT3 cardioid condenser microphone for one Gibson J45 guitar, and a Rode NT1000 large diaphragm condenser microphone for the main vocal and (second!!) Gibson J45 guitar, then used the same mics for the "ghosts" overdub- angled in different directions. This makes for 4 different areas of sound localization. Not necessarily a traditional ambisonic microphone placement, but it gave us 4 channels of audio and this was rendered to First Order Ambisonics for YouTube.  We were trying to capture studio-quality acoustic guitar and vocal sounds in a live location recording. We had to capture this take fast, because we were reliant on the battery duration of a 15" MacBook Pro (which was also powering an Apogee Duet USB audio interface), and a GoPro Max 360 video camera. A nice blend of studio-quality microphone sounds, mixed with industrial noise and traffic in the background, as well as the inherent tunnel reverberation. This was around midnight on a cold winter Sunday in December, in an East Vancouver tunnel under a railroad track. Mixed with Dear Reality's Spatial Connect software and DearVR Pro spatial panner. Mixed inside the VR environment through Spatial Connect with an Oculus Quest headset and a PC, via Quest Link. Video was edited in Adobe Premiere Pro, and also monitored in Oculus Quest during editing, via the Premiere Pro immersive environment.

Space Maschine - 360VR music video

Original music by Simpsonelli.

An eclectic combination of instruments and sounds - Native Instruments' Maschine Mikro, a Moog Etherwave Theremin, an African Kalimba, and pitch-transposed brown noise created in Steinberg Nuendo for the rockets. Each instrument had an improvised performance captured by a 3 camera setup - a Canon Rebel T3i DSLR, a GoPro Max, and an iPhone 12 Pro. Each camera captured a different angle of the performance in 2D HD, and was sequenced on top of a 360 monoscopic still image in Premiere Pro. Stereo audio source for Maschine, mono sources for the other instruments. Mixed using the DearVR Pro spatial panner and for this YouTube release, rendered to First Order Ambisonics.
